Community looks to honor veteran who died alone - KSNB Local 4

KSNB) - James Nathan Davis lived a quiet life. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, an Eagles fan, and worked as a baker in a nearby Dunkin Donuts. “And you know, as sick as he was in the latter years he still always wanted to work,” Landlord and Friend Greg Sinner said. “He just wanted to get out there, be employed, and be part of society and work.” He died alone on March 3 in his Hastings apartment. With no family and few close friends his landlord found it hard to find a single photograph in his home. However, Sinner became his friend over the years and has decided Davis needs a proper burial. So he quickly got in contact with local agencies to see what he could do “Over my career as a funeral director, there has been several where it's just been myself and a minister at the cemetery because there's no family and that's just not right for any human being or a veteran especially,” Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home Director Mike Butler said. With the funeral home and county veterans services on board, Davis is set to have a military burial with honors. The community is welcome to come and send him off on Tuesday April 16 at 2 pm at the Blue Valley Cemetery in Ayr. “It's always important to recognize our veterans and it's always in our hearts to give them the proper military burial that they deserve,” Adams County Veterans Service Officer Chris Long said He may have lived a quiet life, but those he was able to touch in the community are making sure he's laid to rest the way any veteran should. There will be a procession from the Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home to the cemetery led by the Sheriff's Office and the Patriot Guard. ...
